The Saturday night live comedian and host Tina Fey made a joke in her book Bossypants that people should not imitate the looks they see on the runway; instead, they should emulate the style of the fashion designers themselves.
Not sure what you’ll make of that, but she may have a point about the seeming double standards because many designers don’t actually wear the clothes they make for display on the runways. Instead, they appear more casual and plain. But that doesn’t really mean anything because the designs they make remain flawless, they look great on the models, and they would definitely look great on the right person who can fit into the style. It’s all about what fits you and what is comfortable, right?
So if you want to take a feather out of the exceptional fashion designers' hats and find out what you could wear this summer to look good, you’re in the right place.
Late Coco Chanel, bless her beautiful soul, an exceptional designer of all time who championed the rise of the Chanel brand, is a simple yet avant-garde fashion icon. Her style was always just the right amount of everything; flair, comfort, simplicity. It was pure perfection. Some of her brand’s 2021 collection for summer takes her silhouette style and modernizes it.
Like the 2021 silhouette monochrome miniskirt paired with a chiffon top, open shoes, and a jacket that will have you feeling the freedom of summer once you put it on. Paired with accessories like a ring, choker, and a long necklace will turn this outfit into a summer dream. The choice to wear leggings or not with the miniskirt may be a matter of preference; however, it was part of the runway display of this outfit.
Definitely also go for denim. Adriano Goldschmied, an Italian fashion designer who is also considered the ‘godfather of denim’, is another one to tap from for the summer. His Los Angeles fashion house, Agolde, has premium quality distressed denim shorts that are the archetypal summer choice.
The brand also offers more summer diversity, as seen in their jersey bodysuits and track pants that are stretchable for comfort and easy to pair in addition to being light and breezy. Denim shorts can always be paired with crop tops or oversized shirts, and even floral prints.
Another collection that is absolutely fad is Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Valentino ready-to-wear summer collection. The brand's creative director delivered a beautiful display of black silhouette dresses and floral prints at the 2021 runways. It goes without saying that they are obvious choices for the sunny days ahead. The designer showcased his style in a very approachable way to everyone despite being a high fashion designer.
The runway was a bit surprised to see a deviation from his usual glamorous shiny green-yellow color palette or pink and the high-end feathery style. Instead, he brought out dark silhouettes, beige and off-white colors that adequately represent the comfort and warmth that summer brings. And apart from Piccioli’s impressive designs, his unpredictability is really the icing on the cake.
