What would you do if you had all the riches in the world? Explore places, buy luxurious cars and stunning outfits, dine at the finest restaurants, maybe? TBH, that's what most people would do. But some souls harbor dreams beyond this planet. For them, worldly possessions are of no use. It looks like Elon Musk is one of those souls.
Recently, Elon Musk announced that he's planning on selling his “last remaining house.” His tweet came days after informing a fellow Twitter user that he owns only one property in the Bay Area.
Considering Musk is the second richest man on the planet, a statement like that was sure to raise questions. Where will he stay now, invest his money, and buy a mansion in the future? Well, patience, dears! We'll answer all your questions right here, right now!
The backdrop
Musk's property selling saga began last year when he declared he would get rid of all his houses and possessions. You might think that he’s moving towards spirituality, but that's not happening (not currently, at least).
It's believed that the announcement aimed to shift people's focus from the billionaire's wealth and soften their criticisms. It was a counter-move to a ProPublica report which depicted some of the world's wealthiest people in poor light. As per the report, billionaires like Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Warren Buffett paid less or no income tax as compared to their wealth.
An attempt to change people's perception
Initially when the report came to light, Musk informed his fans and followers that he would keep paying taxes in California till he uses the state's resources. As for where he was living, he revealed he was staying in a rented place. The Tesla CEO, who moved to Texas last year, stated that he rents a ~$50k house in Boca Chica, Texas.
Speaking about his real estate portfolio, he revealed that at present he owned only one property in the San Francisco Bay Area. Musk wrote that that estate too was on rent; it was only used for events. He continued that if ever he plans on selling it, he would sell it to a buyer who uses it properly. He’d probably sell it to a large family who stays there and uses its amenities well. Looks like he’s finally found the ideal buyer (that’s what the reports would imply, right?).
Will Musk buy a property in the future?
Now that’s a tough one to answer. Right now, the SpaceX CEO’s priority is his work. He's working on sustainable energy with Tesla and trying to fulfill his dream of making a multi-planetary life possible with SpaceX. He's also building a spaceport named Starbase in Boca Chica, Texas. So you see, currently, his plate's full. Plus, the fact that he hasn’t made a statement about moving anywhere hints that he wouldn’t get into buying properties anytime soon. However, if he does buy a property out of the blue, it'll only make for some gossip, so it’s anyways a win-win deal for us.
