Harsh natural light can often be an issue for the photographer and his muses if the light is too unforgiving on the eyes. This is why most sunlight photographs are taken during the golden hour; to avoid the sun’s glare.

Going against the norm, Nixon chose to capture the picture with the unrelenting sunshine to capture the contrast of the shadows and give a sharper edge to the sisters.
